silksoundbooks.com was born of need: the greatest works of classical literature needed to be read by the greatest stage and screen actors of our time!

Because silksoundbooks.com has access to the best sound studios in central London and is well known and trusted by the acting community, performers who have rightly earned the highest levels of respect and admiration from audiences and professional associates worldwide have enthusiastically joined us to immortalise these works.

For us the recording of a classic work of literature is an (almost) sacred event. We know that the recordings are eternal: technology means it will be stored, replicated and offered to a listening audience for the next thousand years if we survive that long.

Some of the words written by Lawrence, Eliot, Henry James and others might even help us survive that long! So we consider very carefully how we bring author, text and voice together. We employ experienced and award winning radio, television and film directors to work alongside the sound engineer and the performer to produce recordings not only of technical perfection but of interpretive and stylistic excellence.
