Born in London in 1927, Geoffrey Palmer took his time becoming an actor. Starting his theatrical career in amateur dramatics and stage management, he progressed fairly swiftly to a part in the Royal Court, London’s production of John Osbourne’s West of Suez with Ralph Richardson and from there on to work with the Royal National Theatre. His popular fame arrived with his role in the immensely successful 1970’s television sit-com Butterflies. He has since then appeared prolifically on British, and indeed international, television, most notably in the long lasting television relationship with Dame Judi Dench in As Time Goes By (1992-2005). His film career has been equally full, with his films including The Honorary Consul (1983), A Zed and Two Noughts (1985), A Fish Called Wanda (1988), The Madness of King George (1994), Mrs Brown (1997) and Peter Pan (2003). He was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2005 and lives with his wife Sally Palmer in London. They have two children and a fairly new grandchild.
