About:

Born in Stockton-on-Tees in 1965 Stephen Tompkinson attended the Central School of Speech and Drama. His prolific British television work has ranged from the semi-psychopathic reporter of Drop the Dead Donkey (1980-1988) though the semi-angelic priest of Ballykissangel (1996-1998) to the semi-intrepid adventurer in Wild at Heart (2006).

He appeared in the film Brassed Off in 1996 with Peter Postlethwaite, Tara Fitzgerald and Ewan McGregor, getting credited for being one of the few actors to bring an accurate accent to the part, and recently partnered Nick Berry in the crime-solving drama series In Deep also for British TV. In 1994 he won the British Comedy Award for Best Comedy Actor for his role as Damien Day in Drop the Dead Donkey.

He has one daughter Daisy Ellen, born in 2001, and whilst being a keen supporter of Middlesbrough FC, also manages a mean game of charity cricket, once scoring two more runs than Brian Lara when playing on the same team.
