Today is the birthday of our our star audiobook reader Julie Christie who was born on the 14th April. All of us here at Silksoundbooks would like to wish Julie a very happy birthday.

Although born in Assam in India, the daughter of a tea plantation manager, Julie was educated in England. She trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama which led to her first big role in the BBC TV science fiction series A for Andromeda. She soon established herself as a major screen actress, with appearences in such great movies as Billy Liar, Doctor Zhivago, Farenheit 451 and my absolute favourite, Far from the Madding Crowd in which she appeared with fellow Silksoundbooks reader Terence Stamp.

Her career seems to go on and on with many more award winning performances in films and theatre. Julie is also an active supporter of animal rights and the protection of the environment.

Julie's unabridged reading of Madame Bovary written by the great French author Gustave Flaubert is available only from Silksoundbooks. The story tells of Emma Bovary’s attempts to escape the maddening boredom of being married to the wrong man, in the wrong town, with the wrong picture of her life via a series of very realistically described adulterous affairs and is well worth a listen.
