Richard E Grant a very happy birthday.
Richard was born in Swaziland on May 5th 1957 and studied Drama at the University of Cape Town and later performed in theatre there. He changed his last name from Esterhuysen to Grant when he came to England in 1982.
His first film role brought him instant recognition in a movie that went on to become a cult classic.
Withnail and I starred Richard playing an alcoholic out-of-work actor although he himself is a a teetotaller ! Later work includes roles in
The Player and
Gosford Park, as well as numerous television and theatre appearances.
Richards wonderful voice is put to great use in
A Study In Scarlet , the first of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's stories about the World's most famous sleuth,
