Born in 1941,Julia McKenzie has dominated the stage musical
on both sides of the Atlantic for most of her professional life.
Amongst many others her performances in Guys and Dolls, Sweeney Todd, Follies, Into the Woods and Side By Side By Sondheim have won her two Olivier Awards and a Tony nomination. In the straight play Woman in Mind in London’s West End she received the Evening Standard Award for Best Actress.
Her work on British television has also earned her many plaudits. Her role in the 1980’s comedy series Fresh Fields (and its sequel French Fields) led to her being voted the TV Times Favourite Female Comedy actress for five consecutive years. Her film credits include Shirley Valentine, Bright Young Things and These Foolish Things.
She has also had great success as a theatre director, with productions including Stepping Out, Peter Pan, Steel Magnolias and A Little Night Music.
